Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the top questions we are asked, along with some other questions that you should consider asking any photographer or videographer you plan to hire.

What is your experience in events?

We have been shooting weddings and events since 2006. Even though our day to day work is headshots, we shoot lots of events each year and love doing it!

What kind of equipment do you use?

We use numerous high-end Nikon dSLR cameras, flashes, lenses, camera mounts, stabilizers, and lighting equipment. For specific questions, please email us at events@cityheadshots.com. If you have a special request, let us know and we'll look into purchasing it.

How long until I get my final photos or video?

Photos and unedited video usually takes us a few days to send out, and edited videos or retouched photos can take a bit longer - generally a week or two. Of course, this time period is dependent upon receiving notes from you in a timely manner if need specific edits. It can also depend on what package you select. If you're working on a tight deadline, we can often get it done, but you'll just need to let us know your requirements as soon as possible so we can confirm.

How many photos will I get or how long is the final video?

We typically shoot around 100-200 photos per hour, but the number varies depending on what's going on at the event. For videos, the length of the video will be dependent upon what we're shooting and how long you need the final edit to be.

Are you insured?

Yes, we have a $3,000,000 General Liability Insurance Policy and can have certificates of insurance generated if your building or venue requires it.

Do you work well with other vendors?

We strive to work smoothly with other vendors. We typically speak with the other vendors at the beginning of the event to make sure that we won't get in each other's way. Most of the vendors we've worked with have become friends with us because they enjoyed our company during the shoot.

Do you use flash?

We'll use flash if it's not going to be too distracting. Our cameras and lenses are easily able to capture enough light without flash, and we generally avoid it during quiet or or intimate moments so it's not distracting.

Do I get to choose the music for my video and/or slideshow?

Yes. If you are getting a slideshow made, we will ask you to select a song (or we can choose if you prefer), and once we know the length of the song, we will let you know how many images we can put into the slideshow (generally around 50-60 favorites). For videos, we can edit music of your choice throughout the video, and will discuss with you exactly how many songs we'll be using once we know how long the final video will be. For promotional use, we generally recommend using royalty-free music - we have plenty of selections.

Is there a contract and a deposit required? What if you're sick or unable to make it?

We use a contract and a booking deposit is required to reserve the date. You will review and sign the contract before you submit the deposit. If you'd like to see a copy of the contract, we're happy to send you one, but most of the contractual questions are answered in this "Frequently Asked Questions" page.

It's very rare, but if someone on our team is sick, we have a few other shooters that work on our team, all with high-levels of experience. We will simply put another shooter on to cover your event, one who has a similar eye and style to the photographer/videographer who was unable to make it.

Will you book other shoots on the same day as my event?

We generally don't book other events for the same shooter on the same day unless you haven't yet placed a deposit and someone else books before you. In terms of travel, we always aim to arrive to events about an hour before our contract stipulates so that we have plenty of time for traffic or some other unforeseen circumstances.

Can I save money on a package by opting for less hours of coverage?

Yes, but only if you let us know before signing the contract and placing the deposit, otherwise the minimum rate is what is specified in the contract, even if you need less hours the day of. This is because we've already blocked off our calendar and reserved the shooter for a certain period of time,

Do you travel for events?

We definitely do! If you are having an event at a far-away location, feel free to reach out and we'll let you know what's involved and whether we'll be able to make it.
